Are you wondering if you need therapy?
Adult Mental Health Disorders
Adults suffer from every type of stress, anxiety and problem known to humans. Disorders that used to be considered only for children are now recognized as spanning throughout life. As an adult gone are the days when are worst problems were being rejected for a game of tag on the playground. If adults were able to “just deal” with their own problems, many problems would be simple. We can’t “just deal” because our problems are not simple anymore. Adult responsibilities and expectations make taking care of ourself not only more difficult but also more essential. Therapy focused on helping clients to balance their problems, desires, expectations and responsibilities with their life values to keep a focus on what matters most without neglecting major components of their life.
YOU MAY NEED THERAPY
If you have suffered with a problem for more than 6 months it is likely time for professional help. Some problems are short term and resolve on their own, some don’t. A loss of a spouse may take up to a year to feel “normal” again. If you’ve suffered for longer than that, it’s likely time to seek therapy. If you have depression that won’t go away… anxiety that is keeping you from living life… ADHD that has negatively impacted your jobs, your relationships and your self esteem… or a variety of other emotional and mental problems that don’t seem to resolve on their own, it’s time to find help.
YOU MAY NOT NEED THERAPY
Below is a list of problems suffered by adults. You will find descriptions of the problem and solutions to try before coming to therapy. Many people find that they can manage their own problems without therapy. Some find therapy can help them build skills in the short term. Others need therapy longer term.
Either way, these will get you started on changing your life…
